Who we are and what we believe
"To teach Indian languages and culture to Indian-American children — empowering the next generation to stay connected to their heritage while thriving as Americans."
Vidyalaya was founded by parents who wanted their children to grow up knowing where they came from — able to speak with grandparents in their native tongue, understand the prayers at family pujas, and feel proud of an identity that spans two worlds.
We are a community school, run entirely by volunteers from the Indian-American community. Our teachers are parents and community members who bring both personal heritage and trained pedagogical skill to every Sunday morning class.
Hindi, Gujarati, and Telugu — taught through an ACTFL-accredited curriculum with six progressive levels. Students build genuine communicative competence, not just memorized phrases.
Ten culture levels from introductory mythology through advanced Bhagavad Gita study. Students learn to understand and discuss the philosophical traditions that shape Indian life and values.
Every Sunday begins with assembly — prayers, bhajans, and the national anthem. Students learn the words, the meaning, and the tradition behind each piece in our prayer library.
Beyond the classroom, Vidyalaya is a community. Children build friendships with other Indian-American kids who share their experience of growing up between two cultures.
